I took over the head coaching job at UWA in 2006 and set about trying to build a running program that would be regionally competitive and, eventually, competitive on the national level.
UWA had pretty much finished last in the conference every year in both men's and women's cross country prior to my arrival so we set out to move up in the conference standings as a first goal.
Prior to coming to UWA, I had coached for 12 years at the University of West Georgia, where we had won numerous conference and regional championships and had qualified several teams for the national championship meet. I hoped to bring that same level of success to UWA.
